Abstract:Objective To explore the role of immunoglobulin A (IgA) in pathogenesis of adult patients with epilepsy . Methods A total of 112 newly diagnosed adult patients with epilepsy were included .The patients were divided into non-symptomatic epilepsy group (group A, 56 cases) and symptomatic epilepsy group (group B, 56 cases), and another 56 a-dult health volunteer were served as the control group .The serum levels of IgA , IgG, IgM, C3 and C4 were determined by latex enhanced immunoturbidimetry in three groups .Results The serum level of IgA in the group A was significantly lower as compared with those in the group B and control group (all P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the serum levels of IgG, IgM, C3 and C4 between three groups (all P>0.05).Conclusion It is concluded that the decrease of IgA may be one of the biomarkers in the diagnosis of adult non-symptomatic epilepsy , which probably takes part in the patho-genesis of adult epilepsy .
