Abstract:Objective To explore the mechanism of botulinum toxin type A ( BTX-A) in treatment of migraine of rats. Methods The migraine rat models were established and then were respectively given subcutaneous injection of BTX -A (BTX-A group) and normal saline (NS group); additionally, the healthy rats were selected as the control group .The contents of calcitonin gene related peptide ( CGRP) and substance P ( SP) were detected by radioimmunoassay .Results The contents of CGRP and SP in the NS group were higher than those of the control group , but they decreased significantly in the BTX-A group as compared with those of the NS group (all P<0.05).Conclusion BTX-A inhibits SP and CGRP releasing from trigeminal sensory pathways , which may be one of the mechanisms of BTX-A in treatment of migraine .
