Abstract:To investigate the role of transform growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)in development and progression of diabetic nephropathy.TGF-β1 was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)and measured by semi-quantily in peripheral blood monocytes(PBMC)from patients with diabetic mellitus(DM),diabetic nephropathy(DN)and renal failure stage of diabetic nephropathy (DRF)and healthy controls. Results showed that the PBMC from patients with DM,DN and DRF expressed higher level of TGF-β1 mRNA than healthy control(P<0.01).The TGF-β1 are regarded as play a key role during the (development) of the whole pathological procedure of diabetic nephropathy. The glome rulosclerosis degree of DN patiens can be calculated by the rate of the TGF-β1 mRNA expression in PBMC.Effectively controlling the secretion and activity of the TGF-β1 has been an important direction to delay and reverse glomerulosclerosis.
