Abstract:In this study, the mouthpart morphology, stylet length and mouthpart sensilla of the 1st and 2nd instar nymphs of Matsucoccus matsumurae,as well as the antennal morphology, and the types, number and distribution of sensilla in the 1st instar nymphs, were observed using both scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and light microscopy. The results were as follows. The mouthparts of M.matsumurae are located be-tween the middle and hind legs, adjacent to the middle leg coxae. The stylets are arranged in a bundle of four, equal in length and filamentous, with the two specialized mandibular stylets in the center interlocking to form a single unit that terminates in a small"V"-shaped bifurcation. The upper and lower lips are degenerate, and the mouthparts are equipped with two types of sensilla-sensilla chaetica and sensilla campaniformia.A signifi-cant positive correlation was found between body length and mouthpart length in the second instar nymphs of varying sizes.Body length also had correlation with the ratio of mouthpart length to body length, however, there was no significant correlation between mouthpart length and this ratio. The antennae of the 1st instar nymphs are bead-like,consisting of six segments, and bear four types of sensilla:sensilla trichodea(ST),sensilla campaniformia(CA),sensilla basiconica(SB),and sensilla coeloconica(CO).The findings of this study could provide a theoretical foundation for further investigation into the host selection, feeding behavior, and other invasion mechanisms of Matsucoccus matsumurae.
