Abstract:To clarify the effects of combined application of nitrogen(N)and potassium(K)on growth, development and physiological characteristics of walnut seedlings, and to determine the optimal application rate of N and K,a pot experiment was conducted using a two-factor three-level orthogonal design with N fertil-izer rates of 0,150 and 300 mg/kg,and K fertilizer(K2O)rates of 0,200 and 400 mg/kg,respectively.The response of growth and development, photosynthetic characteristics and N,P and K absorption of walnut seed-lings to different N and K application rates and their interactions were analyzed. The results showed that appro-priate application of N fertilizer could increase the content of chlorophyll and its components in leaves of walnut seedlings, enhance the nutrient uptake of aboveground and underground parts of seedlings, and promote plant growth.Increasing application rate of K fertilizer could increase nutrient uptake, dry matter accumulation, plant height and stem diameter, but the chlorophyll content in seedling leaves decreased when the K fertilizer rate was too high(K2O 400 mg/kg).The effects of N and K application on walnut seedling growth,photosyn-thetic characteristics and nutrient uptake were interactive significantly. The dry matter accumulation in aboveground part of N2K2 treatment(N 150 mg/kg,K2O 200 mg/kg)was the largest, and the plant grew best.In conclusion, the combined application of N and K fertilizer significantly affected the growth,photosyn-thetic characteristics and nutrient absorption of walnut seedlings, and the combined application of N 150 mg/kg and K2O 200 mg/kg could be used as the recommended rate of N and K fertilizer for the maintenance and management of walnut seedlings.
