Abstract:To investigate the impact of using potato straw as a component in cultivation substrate on pota-to pre-basic seed production,an experiment was conducted using cultivars Longshu 7 and Jizhangshu 12 as test subjects. The cultivation substrates were formulated by combining potato straw, peat soil and vermiculite at dif-ferent volume ratios, resulting in six distinct mixture treatments(CK:100%vermiculite;T1:20%potato straw+50%peat soil+30%vermiculite;T2:30%potato straw+40%peat soil+30%vermiculite;T3:50%potato straw+20%peat soil+30%vermiculite;T4:70%potato straw+30%vermiculite;T5:100%potato straw). The effects of these substrates on the growth and development of virus-free potato plantlets and the yield and economic benefits of pre-basic seeds were studied. The results indicated that the composite sub-strates with an appropriate proportion of potato straw significantly improved the physicochemical properties and promoted the growth and development of virus-free plantlets compared to the CK treatment. The T1 treatment yielded the highest number of tubers per plot(0.75 m2),total output, economic benefit and output-input ratio for the both cultivars, and for Longshu 7,these values were 549.33 tubers,2.5791 million yuan per hectare,1.7375 million yuan per hectare and 3.06,respectively,while for Jizhangshu 12,the values were 348.33 tu-bers,1.5180 million yuan per hectare,0.6764 yuan per hectare and 1.80,respectively.The study demonstra-ted that potato straw could be utilized in cultivation substrates for propagating potato pre-basic seeds.Specific-ally,the composite substrate comprising 20%straw,50%peat soil and 30%vermiculite(T1)offered a sig-nificant increase in economic benefit compared to the traditional vermiculite substrate(CK),showing promis-ing application potential.
