Abstract:In order to reduce the losses caused by drought stress in cucumber production, this experi-ment used the excellent cucumber variety'Koukoucui'as the test variety and used 10%polyethylene glycol(PEG)to simulate drought stress on cucumber seedlings at the stage of two leaves and one bud.Spraying 0.10 mmol·L-1 salicylic acid(SA)was conducted on the day of stress or before and after stress to study the effects of SA treatment at different stages on the growth and physiological metabolism of cucumber seedlings under simulated drought stress with PEG.The results were as follows. In the SA spraying treatments, spraying 0.10 mmol·L-1 SA on the day of stress could significantly alleviate the inhibitory effects of phenotypic indexes such as plant height, root length, dry and fresh weights, leaf length, leaf width and stem length of cucumber seedlings, significantly increase the chlorophyll content of cucumber seedlings, improve activity of antioxidant enzymes,en-hance root vitality, and reduce the content of osmotic regulator proline and harmful substance malondialdehyde(MDA)content.Correlation analysis showed that there were significant interactions between physiological and growth indicators of cucumber seedlings under different treatments, which jointly affect seedling growth,devel-opment and physiological metabolism.Comprehensive analysis showed that spraying 0.10 mmol·L-1 SA on the day of drought stress had the most significant alleviating effect on the phenotypic and physiological biochemical characteristics of cucumber seedlings under drought stress. The research results could provide technical support for alleviating drought stress encountered during cucumber production.
