Abstract:To determine the drought resistance of different Ardisia crenata varieties at seedling stage and select the indexes suitable for drought resistance evaluation and identification, the experiment was carried out using the biennial seedlings of 10 A.crenata varieties as experimental materials by setting normal watering treatment and simulated drought treatment through stopping watering. After treated for 30 days,22 drought re-sistance related indicators were measured and their drought-resisting coefficient(DC)were calculated, and then the indicators suitable for identifying the drought resistance of A.crenata were selected by principal com-ponent analysis and membership function methods. The comprehensive drought resistance of the ten varieties of A.crenata was evaluated based on the D value. The results were as follows.(1)Compared to CK,drought treatment for 30 days decreased the net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate, relative leaf water content, photosynthetic pigments and dry weight of biomass of the ten A.crenata cultivars, and most reached significant level, but significantly increased the relative conductivity, contents of malonaldehyde(MDA),soluble sugar, soluble protein and proline, and activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD),peroxi-dase and catalase.(2)Through principal component analysis, dry weight of root, total biomass of plant, and leaf net photosynthetic rate, intercellular CO2 concentration, relative conductivity,MDA content,SOD activity could be used as reference indicators for evaluating the drought resistance of A.crenata varieties at seedling stage.(3)Through comprehensive evaluation by membership function method,it was preliminarily determined that the drought resistance of the 10 A.crenata varieties was in the order from strongest to weakest as 'Summer Pear'>'Fuchow'>'Red Linglong'>'Golden-Jade Full House'>'Fook Mantang'>'Green Pearl'>'Pearl Tower'>'Green Xiazhu'>'Big Rich'>'Apples'.These results could provide theoretical references for breed-ing A.crenata new varieties with higher drought tolerance.
