Abstract:Maize kernel is an important storage organ of photosynthate, and its development directly af-fects kernel weight and yield. In this study, phenotypic observation, genetic analysis and molecular marker mapping were performed using maize kernel shrunken mutant sh2019,wild type maize inbred line Mo17 and their F2 segregating population.Phenotypic observation showed that the mutant sh2019 had shrunken kernels and shrunken seed coat, and its hundred-kernel weight and emergence rate significantly decreased by 43.55%and 69.56%respectively compared with the wild type.Genetic analysis showed that the kernel shrunken phe-notype of sh2019 was controlled by a pair of recessive nuclear genes.Molecular marker mapping using the F2 segregating population and BSA(bulk segregant analysis)showed that the gene sh2019 was mapped on chro-mosome 3 of maize within a physical distance of about 30.18 Mb.These results could provide bases for fine mapping of sh2019 gene and molecular marker assisted breeding.
