Abstract:This research adopted the way of artificial flooding to simulate the flooding stress environment. The experimental treatments were conducted in the jointing period, heading period and filling period respectively with no flooding as control (CK).Then the effects of flooding stress on leaf area index (LAI), chlorophyll content and yield of summer corn were studied. The results showed that the chlorophyll content and LAI of maize had little change when flooding for 1 day, and obviously decreased after flooding for 5 days.Flooding in different growth periods all could reduce the spikes per hectare and yield, but had different effects on 1 000-kernel weight and kernels per spike.Flooding in the jointing period and heading period both could decrease the 1 000-kernel weight and kernels per spike, while flooding in the filling period had certain positive effects on 1 000-kernel weight and kernels per spike. Thus, the decreasing amplitude of maize yield when flooding in the jointing and heading periods was obviously higher than that in the filling period.
