Comparative Study on Photosynthetic Characteristics of Five Paeonia lactiflora Varieties

Abstract：Using five Paeonia lactiflora varieties,‘Hongyanzhenghui’,‘Zhushapan’,‘Zifengyu’,‘Fenyunu’and ‘Qiaoling’,as materials,their photosynthetic characteristics after anthesis were studied to find the intervarietal differences in morphological and physiological characteristics to better meet the needs of cultivation management.The results indicated that the diurnal changes of net photosynthetic rates (Pn)among the five Paeonia lactiflora varieties were inconsistent.Those of ‘Hongyanzhenghui ’,‘Zhushapan’and‘Zifengyu’presented double peak curves and had obvious midday depression phenomenon;the highest peak occurred at 9∶00 ~10∶00 and the secondary peak appeared at 15∶00.The net photosynthetic rates of the oth-er 2 varieties showed single peak curves and the highest peak occurred at 9 ∶00.The light response curve showed that the photosynthetic ability of ‘Zifengyu’was the strongest.‘Qiaoling’owned the strongest shade -tolerance,but the shade -tolerance of the five Paeonia lactiflora varieties were inferior on the whole, so they were unsuitable for planting as undergrowth vegetation.
