Determination of Pigment Content in Introduced Ornamental Crabapple in Baotou during Color Changing Period

Abstract：In order to reveal the change trend of pigments in leaves during color changing period,the contents of chlorophyll,carotenoid and anthocyanin of six introduced ornamental crabapples in Baotou were determined by colorimetric method.The results showed that the contents of chlorophyll and carotenoid in leav-es of the six ornamental crabapples shared the same changing trend.The contents of chlorophyll a,b and a +b decreased obviously;the ratio of chlorophyll a to b rose firstly and then declined,and the changing ampli-tude of Xifu Haitang was the largest.The change trend of carotenoid was more gently,and the content of Hongbaoshi and Xuanli increased slightly in the later period.The content of anthocyanin decreased at first and then rose,but different varieties had different changing amplitudes.The color expression of leaves depended on the percentage of different pigments.The leaf color of Xifu Haitang was yellow because the percentage of carotenoid was absolutely high.The leaf color of the other ornamental crabapples was orange yellow because the percentage of carotenoid was similar to that of anthocyanin.
