Abstract:The effects of foliar -spraying urea on nitrogen (N)uptake, root morphology and leaf growth of peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.)were determined and evaluated by pot experiment in the artificial climate chamber. The results showed that,by foliar -spraying urea, the N accumulation in stem and leaves increased by about 80%,while that in root decreased by 1 4.1 8%;the root length, surface area and volume decreased obviously, especially those with the diameter <0.5 mm,the length and surface area decreased by 24.1 4%and 1 4.95% respectively;the leaf area,SPAD value and net photosynthetic rate increased by 25.93%, 34.63% and 53.02% respectively. The main component analysis showed that foliar -spraying urea signifi-cantly promoted the N uptake and leaf growth traits, but inhibited the development of root system,so the ratio of root to shoot decreased. Therefore,in the low -fertility soils, especially in the hilly drought -thin soils, spraying foliar fertilizer was an effective way to regulate peanut nutrient metabolism, make up the deficiency of root system absorption and promote the growth of peanut.
