Effects of Different Sowing Dates on Growth and Yield of Ratooning Rice in the South of Henan Province

Abstract：In order to determine the optimum sowing date of ratooning rice in south of Henan Province, the growth process,seedling quality,yields of main crop and its ratooning rice were compared and analyzed. The results showed that under the climatic conditions of 2014,the rice seedlings sowed on March 1 to April 11 could grow normally through dry nursery in a small plastic shed,except that sowed on February 21.Sowed dur-ing this period,the maturity of main crop delayed and the yield of ratooning rice declined with the postponing of sowing date.The yield of main crop rice was the highest when sowed on March 11,and the total production of main crop and ratooning rice reached the peak when sowed on March 1.Therefore,the early and middle March was identified as the optimum sowing period for ratooning rice in south area of Henan Province .
