Abstract:The effects of applying selenium on vegetative growth, physiological characteristics and quality of three peanut varieties, Huayu 25, Shanhua 7 and Shanhua 8, were studied through pot experiment. The re-sults showed that basal application of 3 mg/kg selenium, the main stem height, branch number, root dry weight, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b and chlorophyll a+b of three peanut varieties were all higher than those of control during flowering and pegging stage, while the carotenoids, chlorophyll a/b were lower than those of control;the SOD, POD, CAT activities and soluble protein content in leaves of three peanut varieties were significantly higher than those of control at pot-setting stage. Therefore, applying selenium was conducive to physiological metabolism, growth and development of peanut.
