Physiological and Biochemical Response Differences of Different Wheat Cultivars to Drought, Heat and Co-Stress
Abstract:Two cultivars, Weimai 8 as the high-yielding type and Shannong 16 as the drought-resist-ant type, were used to study the differences in physiological and biochemical response to single and co -stress of drought and heat. The results showed that compared with Shannong 16, Weimai 8 exhibited lower chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate and worse osmotic adjustment ability, which was consistent with its lower os-molyte content under stress conditions. Under the stress conditions, Shannong 16 exhibited higher H +-ATPase activity, lower lipid peroxidation level and higher activity of antioxidant enzymes, so it showed stronger antioxi-dant ability. At the same time, higher level of ABA content in Shannong 16 was helpful for faster response to stress and keeping better metabolic activity under stress conditions.
