Abstract:Four inbred lines applied in conventional maize breeding were selected to analyze the toler-ance ,fresh weight, dry weight, plant height and physiological and biochemical characteristics of seedlings un-der low phosphorus stress. The results showed that Qi 319 had the worst tolerance to low phosphorus followed by Luyuan 476,while Luyuan 43 and 99038 had better tolerance.Low phosphorus stress could increase the root length and volume of maize inbred lines, and those which had worse tolerance increased more.Low phos-phorus stress also could increase the proline and MDA contents, improve the CAT and phosphoesterase activi-ties,but decrease the nitrate reductase activity. The variation of bioactive molecule content and enzyme activi-ty in maize inbred lines were found to be related to low phosphorus stress in a certain extent.
