CHENG Zhiqing's Experience in Treating Hypertension Based on the Combination of"Symptoms and Syndromes"

Abstract:This paper summarizes Professor CHENG Zhiqing's dialectical thinking and frequently used prescriptions and drugs in treating hypertension.Master CHENG believes that hypertension has a dynamic evolution and it is necessary to grasp the overall understanding of the point-to-surface combination relationship between symptoms and syndromes.Starting from the four main symptoms of dizziness,edema,shortness of breath and palpitations,the main symptoms should be focused on firstly,and the secondary symptoms should then be distinguished,syndrome differentation is based on the symptoms and combines the symptoms and syndromes,and moves from the point to the surface to grasp the main contradiction of the disease and predict the trend of disease changes.In terms of prescription and medication,Master CHENG is adept at applying classic prescriptions without being bound by the past.He takes classic prescriptions as the foundation and combines them with modern pharmacological research,making flexible adjustments and achieving remarkable therapeutic effects.The frequently applied classic prescriptions include Longdan Xiegan Decoction(龙胆泻肝汤),Jingui Shenqi Pill(金匮肾气丸),Lingjiao Gouteng Decoction(羚角钩藤汤),and Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction(半夏白术天麻汤),etc.
