Effects of Bushen Shengbai Formula(补肾升白方)on Bone Marrow Suppression-Related Indicators in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Postoperative EC Chemotherapy

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the effects of Bushen Shengbai Formula(补肾升白方)on bone marrow suppression-related indicators in breast cancer patients following adjuvant chemotherapy with the epirubicin-cyclophosphamide(EC)regimen after sur-gery.Methods:A total of 68 postoperative breast cancer patients receiving EC adjuvant chemotherapy were enrolled and randomly divided into control group and observation group by using the random number table method,with 34 cases in each group.Both groups received EC chemotherapy;in addition,the observation group was combined with oral administration of Bushen Shengbai Formula.Both groups were treated for one chemotherapy cycle.The key outcomes of the peripheral blood cell counts,the degree of leukopenia and neutropenia,and Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS)of the two groups before and after treatment were compared.The incidence rates of agranulocytopenia and agranulocytopenia with fever,the utilization rate and dosage of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor(G-CSF),and the occurrence of adverse reactions during the treatment period were compared between the two groups.Results:There was no statistically significant difference in the white blood cell,hemoglobin and platelet counts between the two groups on the 10th day after chemotherapy(P＞0.05).The neutrophils in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in the degree of leukocyte inhibition between the two groups(P＞0.05).The degree of neutrophil inhibition in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of agranulocytosis between the two groups(P＞0.05).The incidence of agranulocytosis with fever in the control group was higher than that in observation group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).The utilization rate of G-CSF in the control group was 100％,and 97.06％in the observation group,the difference was not statistically significant(P＞0.05).The dosage of G-CSF used in the observation group was lower than that in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P＜0.05).After treatment,the KPS scores of both groups decreased compared with those before treatment,and those were higher in the observation group,with statistically significant differences(P＜0.01).There was no statistically significant difference in the occurrence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P＞0.05).Conclusions:Bushen Shengbai Formula can improve the physical condition of patients after chemotherapy,enhance their tolerance to chemotherapy in breast cancer patients undergoing EC chemotherapy,and it has certain preventive and therapeutic effect on bone marrow suppression,and demonstrates a good safety.
