Abstract:Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder is a rare immune-mediated inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, mainly affecting the optic nerve and spinal cord.Based on the theory of"wind, fire, toxin, blood deficiency and deficiency",this article classifies and treats neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders into three stages:the acute phase, the remission phase, and the rehabilitation phase. It is proposed that the pathogenesis in the acute phase is external invasion of wind pathogen and damage to the marrow by heat toxins, which is mainly due to the pathological factors of wind, fire, and toxins. It is advisable to dispel wind and disperse pathogen, clear heat and detoxify.During the remission phase, the pathogenesis is characterized by disharmony of qi and blood and persistent heat and toxicity, which is mainly due to pathological factors of deficiency, fire and toxin. It is advisable to harmonize qi and blood, and clear heat and detoxify. The pathogenesis during the rehabilitation phase is characterized by deficiency of kidney essence and internal obstruction of blood stasis, which is mainly due to the pathological factors of deficiency and blood stasis. It is advisable to tonify kidney essence, promote blood circulation and unblock meridians,in order to provide new strategies and ideas for the traditional Chinese medicine treatment of this disease.
