Abstract:The Chapter of Shang Gu Tian Zhen Lun of Plain Questions describes the foundational rhythms of human growth, development, and reproduction using the"female seven, male eight"cycle. It discusses how the arrival, peak, and exhaustion of tian gui is in accordance with the waxing and waning of kidney qi.This text establishes the theory that"kidney governs reproduction",emphasizing that the body's own reproductive functions, development, and aging are governed by kidney essence and kidney qi.Modern research indicates that kidney is not only the root of reproduction but also the foundation of immunity.Chinese medicinals for tonifying kidney can stabilize the intrauterine environment by regulating maternal-fetal immune tolerance, thereby improving reproductive function.Kidney stores essence, governs the bones, and generates marrow;its prenatal essence complements the acquired essence. This concept aligns remarkably well with the holistic and dynamic perspectives embodied in modern epigenetics. This paper explores the mechanism of the"kidney governing reproduction"theory from the perspective of epigenetic regulation of maternal-fetal immune tolerance, aiming at enriching the scientific connotation of this traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)theory and provide multidimensional perspectives for research into TCM reproductive theory.
