Abstract：Professor SU Xiao believes that the pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus is based on yin deficiency of liver and kidney.Yin deficiency can lead to hyperactivity of fire,which will then transform into stagnated heat and combine with blood stasis over a long period.Therefore,the treatment should consistently incorporate methods of nourishing yin and replenishing deficiency with sweet and cold medicinals,clearing heat,promoting blood circulation,and resolving blood stasis.In clinical practice,Professor SU uses Feng Mian Formula 1(风免一号方)as the basic prescription and modifies it according to the course of the disease,the affected viscera,and the manifestations of the patients.At the same time,emphasis is placed on strengthening and protecting the middle energizer(spleen and stomach).In addition,Professor SU is skilled in using paired medicinals,such as Baihe(Lilii BulBus)-Shengdihuang(Rehmanniae Radix),Shengdihuang-Shengshigao(gypsum),Renshen(Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma)-Huangqi(Astragali Radix),which has been proven to be effective.One proved case is attached.
