Methods: One hundred patients with GERC were randomly divided into two groups, 50 cases in each group. The control group was given oral administration of esomeprazole magnesium enteric-coated tablets and the treatment group was given Shangjiao Xuanbi Decoction besides the medicine of the control group. After 8 weeks of treatment, changes of the cough score and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) symptom score in the two groups were recorded to evaluate the clinical efficacy. Results: After the treatment, the TCM symptoms (heartburn, acid regurgitation, chest pain, upper abdominal pain, throat discomfort) and cough symptom scores of the treatment group were lower than those of the control group, with statistical significance (P< 0.05). In the treatment group and the control group the total effective rate was 94% and 78%, respectively, with statistical significance (P< 0.05).
