Applying Collateral Theory for the Syndrome Differentiation and Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis

Abstract：Ulcerative colitis is a refractory disease,and the understanding by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) on its cause and mechanism has been improved. Through studying the collateral system of TCM,and based on the pathogenesis of evil invading collaterals ,the seven characteristics of the collateral diseases are determined. The theoretical basis of using collateral theory to treat ulcerative colitis was elucidated ,and it was pointed out from the macrolevel and microlevel that ulcerative colitis and collateral diseases are closely linked. Besides,the method of treating collateral diseases and its application in treating ulcerative colitis was analyzed.
