Study on Characteristics of Traditional Chinese Medicine Syndromes of Senile Ulcerative Colitis Based on Factor Analysis and Cluster Analysis

Abstract：Objective:To explore the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome elements of senile ulcerative colitis and the classification and distribution regularities of its syndrome types. Methods:The four kinds of diagnostic information were collected from 206 cases of senile ulcerative colitis patients. The characteristics of TCM syndrome elements and the distribution regularities of syndrome types were ana-lyzed by factor analysis method and cluster analysis method. The two methods were combined to analyze the 35 variables and syndrome differentiation system. Results:The syndrome differentiation study showed that there were 5 syndrome elements of disease location and 9 syndrome elements of disease nature in the 206 cases of ulcerative colitis. The syndrome elements of disease location mainly involved the spleen,intestine, kidney and liver,and the disease nature mainly involved qi deficiency,dampness,heat,deficiency of yang,cold and qi stagnation. The factor analysis method was used to analyze the 35 syndrome entries. Based on syn-drome differentiation and expert discussion ,6 types of TCM syndrome were summarized ,including damp heat in large intestine syndrome,spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome,spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome,liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome,yin deficiency and intestinal dryness syndrome, blood stasis in intestinal collaterals syndrome. The syndromes distribution proportion were analyzed by cluster analysis method:spleen and stomach qi deficiency syndrome 28.16％(58/206),damp heat in large intestine syndrome 23.30％(48/206),spleen and kidney yang deficiency syndrome 21.84％(45/206),liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome 13.11％(27/206),yin deficiency and intestinal dryness syndrome 8.74％(18/206), blood stasis in intestinal collaterals syndrome 4.85％(10/206). Conclusion:There were 6 basic TCM syndrome types of senile ulcerative colitis,in which the qi deficiency syndrome,damp heat syndrome,yang deficiency syndrome are the common types.
