Clinical Trial of Aphasia after Ischemic Stroke Treated with Needling Sichong Points in Combination with the Yishen Huatan Decoction

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of needling four Chong points in combination with Yishen Hu-atan decoction on treatment of aphasia after ischemic stroke. Methods:There were 100 patients with aphasia after ischemic stroke randomly divided into the trial group and control group ,with 50 patients in each group. Patients in both groups were given routine treatment and medical care. In the control group patients were also given Schuell language training,while in the trial group patients were given acupuncture on Sichong points in combination with Yishen Huatan decoction. The two groups were compared on clinical efficacy. Results:The cure rate and overall effective rate were 18.0% and 92.0% in the trial group,respectively,while 4.0% and 62.0% in the control group,with statistical difference(P<0.05). In both groups CRRCAE scores were improved(P<0.05),and each item of the score in the trial group was significantly lower than that in the control group ( P<0 . 05 ) . In both groups , the severity of aphasia patients were significantly relieved (P>0.05),and in the trial group,the severity was relieved more significantly than that in the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion:Chinese herbal medicine to tonify kidney and resolve phlegm,and acupuncture to unblock collaterals should be applied for the aphasias after stroke to achieve satisfactory clinical efficacy.
