Nature and Property of Hydrochlorothiazide Based on Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Using Chemical Drugs as Chinese Herbs

Abstract：Hydrochlorothiazide is a common chemical drug for edema ,primary hypertension and central dia-betes insipidus. Based on theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),the nature and property of hy-drochlorothiazide was that it is of warm and hot nature,sweet and bitter taste,pertains to lung,spleen,kidney and urinary bladder meridians,with the function of lifting and floating. According to TCM theory,for primary hypertension,it is most suitable for the type of excessive accumulation of phlegm dampness. Hydrochloroth-iazide can be both diuretic and anti-diuretic. Therefore,it is of bidirectional regulation. Using chemical drugs according to TCM theory can not only use chemical drugs by syndrome differentiation ,but also can further understand bidirectional regulation of chemical drugs ,to provide a novel protocol for integration of Chinese and western medicine.
