A Review on Huangjing

Abstract：In order to distinguish Huangjing from other herbs ,a literature study was performed on the name , botanical origin and functions. The results showed that in the ancient literature Huangjing is the normal name,and the botanical origin includes the dry rhizome of Polygonatum sibiricum Red.,Polygonatum cyrtone-ma Hua and Polygonatum kigianum Coll. et Hemsl. However ,other plants of Polygonatum are often used as Huangjing. Huangjing is usually as an herb to tonify ,but in some areas Huangjing is also used for other ef-fects.
