Discussion of Treatment of Mania Based on Deficiency and Excess in Huangdi’s Internal Classic

Abstract：The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic holds that the causes of mania could be excess pathogens or deficiency. In terms of excess pathogen ,exuberance of yang heat disturbs the spirit ,leading to stagnation of seven emotions stagnation,and overacting of the five minds;in terms of deficiency,yang deficiency causes malnutrition of spirit;deficiency of qi and blood leads to no resource for generation of spirit;deficiency of heart qi and kidney qi leads to no residency of the spirit. Therefore ,the treatment should be given in terms of the deficiency and excess pathogen,and it is no need to distinguish the hypo- and hyper types.
