Investigation of off-label drug use in emergency department of obstetrics and gynecology

Abstract：Objective To investigate the application status of off-label drug use in emergency department of obstetrics and gynecology,and to analyze the risk factors of off-label drug use,so as to promote rational drug use to ensure drug safety of special patients.Methods The proportionate stratified random sampling was conducted to select medications in emergen-cy department of obstetrics and gynecology in our hospital in January 2022 to December 2023.According to drug instruc-tions,determine whether the medication was off-label.The incidence rates of off-label medications was analyzed between different group and categories of drugs.Meanwhile,the correlation between off-label drug use and whether to be pregnant and drug information(essential drugs,OTC drugs,high-alert drugs and pregnancy termination in early trimester drugs)was analyzed.Results A total of 4 268 prescriptions with 9 299 medications were extracted,including 98 kinds of drugs,the in-cidence rate of off-label drug use were 28.00％and 20.99％,respectively.Pregnant,essential drugs,prescription,high-alert drugs and pregnancy termination in early trimester drugs had a higher risk of off-label use(P＜0.05).Conclusion Off-la-bel drug use is widespread in emergency department of obstetrics and gynecology,clinical application needs to strengthen management to ensure the rationality and safety of medication for special populations.
