Study on quality evaluation of Santalum album L.based on UPLC characteristic chromatograms and content determination

Abstract：Objective To evaluate the quality of Santalum album L.from different places of origin by using UPLC characterization and determination of syringaldehyde,an indicator component of Santalum album L..Methods The UPLC method was used to establish the UPLC profiles of Santalum album L.,the common peaks were calibrated,and the charac-teristic peak areas were used as the basis for the determination of 15 batches of Santalum album L.from Hainan,Guangdong and Guangxi,which were analyzed by cluster analysis,principal component analysis and partial least squares.Through com-ponent mining and literature research,the index components were identified and the content determination study of 15 bat-ches of Santalum album L.was carried out.Results The characterization of Santalum album L.identified 10 common peaks,and three common peaks were identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry,which were protocatechuic aldehyde,syringaldehyde,and vanillin,and the similarity results showed that the similarity of the 15 batches of Santalum album L.was greater than 0.900.Cluster analysis,principal component analysis,and partial least squares analysis showed that the samples of different origins might have quality differences.Moreover,the samples of Hainan origin had higher content of butyraldehyde than than those from Guangdong and Guangxi.Conclusion The method of characterization and content deter-mination of Santalum album L.established in this study is simple,stable and feasible,which can provide a reference basis for the quality evaluation of Santalum album L..
