Abstract:Atherosclerosis is a complex vascular disease characterized by endothelial dysfunction, lipid deposition, and chronic inflammation, and is the major pathological basis of cardiovascular disease.Ferroptosis is a mode of cell death caused by lipid peroxidation due to excessive accumulation of iron ions.During the development of atherosclerosis, ferroptosis signifi-cantly affects plaque stability and cardiovascular risk by exacerbating lipid peroxidation and inflammation in atheromatous plaques. In recent years, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has played an active role in the development of ferroptosis by regulating iron homeostasis, inhibiting reactive oxygen species generation and enhancing cellular antioxidant defense,provi-ding new therapeutic strategy for the treatment of atherosclerosis.
