Analysis of the concept and English translation of Zhi Shuang Fa in traditional Chinese medicine processing

Abstract：Objective To review the definitions and English terms of Zhi Shuang Fa in processing of Chinese materia medica and explore its concept range and the accuracy of English translation.Methods To summarize and analyze concept,definition and English term of the method of Zhi Shuang Fa in authoritative literature including the textbook of Processing of Chinese Materia Medica.Results There was great difference in the definition,concept range and English translation of method of Zhi Shuang Fa among different literatures,which could cause bias and confusion.Conclusion The method of Zhi Shuang Fa includes 4 ways traditionally,they are de-oil making,making by crystallizing,making by sublimation and making by decocting.Therefore,it's difficult to translate the method of Zhi Shuang Fa into single English word.According to the meaning of Chinese word"Shuang"and its properties in the processed products of traditional Chinese medicine,it may translate the method of Zhi Shuang Fa into"method of making frostlike powder".
