Research progress on the role of peripheral 5-hydroxytryptamine in atherosclerosis

Abstract：Atherosclerosis (AS) is the pathological basis of a variety of cardiovascular diseases,studies have found that peripheral serotonin (5-HT) and AS are closely related.This review summarizes the role of peripheral 5-HT in the development of AS,including the promotion of macrophage-derived foam cell formation,vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration,vasoconstriction,platelet aggregation and thrombosis.At the same time,this review summarized the application of sarpogrelate hydrochloride in AS treatment to provide new ideas for AS research.
