Abstract:40Mn2-1 hot-rolled round steel is mainly used for engineering applications.Customers using Φ100 round billets for hot upset forging experienced cracking in some parts.Through inspections and investigations of the actual production process using metallography, electron microscopy scanning, and other methods,it was ultimately determined that high hydrogen content in the steel and improper control of slow cooling of the continuous casting billet during the steelmaking process were the root causes of internal cracks in the billets, leading to cracking in the rolled products. To address this issue, measures such as adjusting the vacuum degassing process in the VD furnace and strengthening the control of slow cooling of the continuous casting billet were implemented, effectively controlling the cracking problem in the 40Mn2-1 Steel billets.
