Analysis and Improvement of Nonconformity Cause of Q390D Steel Plate in Ultrasonic Inspection

Abstract：The samples from defect position of Q390D steel plate by ultrasonic inspection was studied by means of Metallurgical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS). The results showed that the defects such as segregation, inclusion and micro-crack were existed in the sample and were the main cause of the echoes in ultrasonic flaw detection. Through optimizing converter tapping process, controlling harmful elements and gas content in steel, adopting reasonable heating system and other measures, the qualification rate of ultrasonic inspection was improved from 98.25% to 99.54%.
