Abstract:To investigate the change in aerodynamic indexes in patient's pharynx, larynx and trachea after hyperplastic granulation tissue excision, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analyses were performed, which may provide a theoretical basis for the evaluation of postoperative effect.Firstly, three-dimensional finite element models of the pharynx, larynx and trachea before and after operation were established based on the patient's CT imaging. Then, the numerical simulations based on CFD methods were performed to investigate the change in aerodynamic indexes in patient's pharynx, larynx and trachea after hyperplastic granulation tissue excision.Numerical simulation results indicated that the dyspnea symptom of patient was largely alleviated after operation, the abnormal laryngeal morphology was obviously improved and the resistance of laryngeal and trachea was decreased significantly. However, the air flow disturbance and local obvious negative pressure were happened as the patient inhale, for the reason of changed anatomy of patient's larynx and trachea geometric model.Present research demonstrates nthat the CFD can be used to evaluate the postoperative effect of hyperplastic granulation tissue excision. The aerodynamic analysis on pharynx, larynx and trachea contributes to locate the key anatomical structure which caused air flow abnormalities and provide more theoretical basis for the development of personalized treatment on larynx obstruction.
