Abstract:To investigate the relevance between end -tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure (Pet CO2 )and airway resistance (Rrs) during the respiratory process of the mice.First,we designed a miniaturized device to monitor the Pet CO2 and assessed its detection accu-racy,which could be coupled to the animal pulmonary function instrument. After the mouse was being ventilated continuously after gener-al anesthesia and intubation, the different constrictions of airway were induced by atomized methacholine (Mch)of different concentra-tions.The Pet CO2 and Rrs were monitored by our new designed device and pulmonary function instrument, respectively. The results showed that the measured values of the Pet CO2 and Rrs were increased correspondingly with the rising concentration of Mch,which indica-ted a positive correlation between Pet CO2 and Rrs.The results indicated that the new device could measure the Pet CO2 accurately and could reflect the changes of Rrs indirectly. These provide references to exploit new rapid, convenient and economical techniques for diag-nosing and monitoring of respiratory disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),by measuring Pet CO2 .
