Abstract:[Objective]This study aims to systematically evaluate the genetic variation rules of 23 Ulmus pumila L.clones, screen clones with excellent comprehensive traits, and provide a basis for efficient breeding of Ulmus pumila L.[Method]Taking a 9-year-old Ulmus pumila L.clone test forest as the experimental material,7 growth and form traits such as DBH(diameter at breast height),tree height and volume were investigated.Variation analysis, correlation analysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis were used to comprehensively evaluate the tested clones.[Result]1)The growth and form traits of the tested Ulmus pumila L.clones were rich in variation, among which the volume trait had the largest coefficient of variation, reaching 35.4%;2)Correlation analysis showed that there were extremely significant positive correlations among DBH,tree height and volume;3)Principal component analysis extracted 4 principal components with a cumulative contribution rate of 87.6%,corresponding to 4 trait dimensions:growth increment, crown width, clear bole height and straightness;4)Based on the comprehensive evaluation model constructed by principal component analysis,5 excellent clones(No.48,106,53,5 and 172)were successfully screened out, which had excellent characteristics such as fast growth and straight trunk.[Conclusion]Ulmus pumila L.clones have great potential for genetic improvement. The 5 excellent clones screened in this study can be used as the core experimental materials for subsequent regionalization tests of Ulmus pumila L.,providing practical support for the genetic improvement of Ulmus pumila L.
