Abstract:Populus species serve as primary urban greening trees in northern Chinese cities.Extensive cultivation has led to significant challenges from airborne catkin pollution in municipal management. To advance scientific catkin monitoring and precision control strategies,we employed an image-based quantification method to measure airborne catkin concentrations in Dezhou's urban areas. Results indicate two peak periods:April 7 to 14 and April 27 to May 7,2025,with approximately 20 days between the catkin dispersal peaks of Populus tomentosa and Populus canadensis. The catkin release process progresses through three distinct phases:initial dispersal, outbreak, and cessation. The outbreak stage exhibits the longest duration, characterized by rapid surge and abrupt decline without mitigation phases. The critical intervention timing occurs at the onset of the outbreak stage, where every degree of temperature rise was associated with an exponential increase in catkin concentration.Effective management therefore requires precise timing aligned with the beginning of this rapid surges, demanding intensified control measures tailored to the specific Populus species during its respective critical period
