Cultivating techniquesand growth performance of western sand cherry seedlings in Chifeng city

Abstract:Western sand cherry (Prunus pumila var.besseyi)is a shrub species originating in North America.In 2008,the shrubs were introduced into Chifeng City and grow well in Horqin sandy land as afforestation species.However,the shrubs ofG ten had many dead branches among new ones that were not suit for landscaping.To our knowledge,three pest insects of the shrubs were first found that included Tent caterpillar (Malacosoma neustria testacea)and Proagopertha lucidula eating their leaves and White-spotted flower chafer beetle (Protaetia brevitarsis)eating their fruits.The cultivating seedling techniques and growth performance of the shrubs in the city Chifeng were described and some advice was given on the measures that should be taken to control the three new pest insects.
