Numerical Analysis of Fiber-Reinforced Stress Absorbing Interlayer under Tire Contact Pressure
AN Zhimin
Abstract:In order to get the optimum ability of fiber-reinforced stress absorbing interlayer to prevent cracks and to guide its design and construction, a finite element analysis model of asphalt pavement with cracks in base is built under measured tire contact pressure. The influence of the fiber-reinforced stress absorbing interlayer ( FSAI) on pavement structure with cracks is also analyzed. The results show that FSAI can effectively reduce the concentration of stress in the crack in asphalt pavement if the cut-off load is at one side of crack in analysis. The modulus of FSAI should range from 50 to 200 MPa and its thickness should range from 5 to 15 mm.
