The Origin and Early Evolution of Pomegranate Skirt

Abstract：The origin of the"pomegranate skirt"(Shiliuqun)was investigated through historical texts,archaeological artifacts,and cross-cultural evidence.The study aimed to explore its nomencla-ture,structural evolution,and socio-cultural motivations.It was found that the term emerged from literary imagery in Northern and Southern Dynasties poetry.But standardization and popularity as a quintessential garment occurred during the Tang Dynasty.This phenomenon resulted from break-throughs in textile technology,the introduction of Western Regions culture,and expressions of fe-male identity.The research provides new perspectives for studies on Tang Dynasty costume history and Silk Road cultural exchanges.
