Effect of Surface Modification on Mechanical Properties of Ramie Fabrics Reinforced Epoxy Resin Composites

Abstract：The surface of ramie fabrics was modified by using silane coupling agent KH-550 treatment, silane coupling agent A-151 treatment and alkali treatment.Ramie fabrics reinforced epoxy resin composites was made by means of autoclave molding process.The tensile properties of the three surface modified ramie fabrics reinforced epoxy resin composites and untreated ramie fabric had been tested and compared.The results show that the tensile properties of ramie fabric reinforced epoxy resin composites are all increased after ramie fabrics being treated by the use of three surface modification methods, especially, the silane coupling agent A-151 treatment effects apparently to increase 30.1%.The silane coupling agent KH-550 treatment increases 28.7% and the alkali treatment increases 28.4%.
