Qualitative Research on the Quality of Life of the Elderly in the Old-age Care Institution
Abstract：Objective:To explore the connotation of the quality of life of the elderly in the old-age institution ,and to provide the basis for the formulation of appropriate evaluation tools.Methods:By using purposive sampling method ,2 old-age care institutions in Jinan were se-lected to do the semi-structured in-depth interviews ,which were combined with the observation to collect data.At the time of saturation ,6 elderly people were included in the study.The Colaizzi′s phenomenological analysis method was applied to analyze the connotation of life quality of the elderly in the old-age care institution.Results:The 8 themes of elderly people′s quality of life were extracted ,including physi-cal health,dietary satisfaction,safety,environmental comfort,autonomy,interpersonal communication,recreational activities and emotional health.Conclusion:Based on China′s cultural background ,this study tentatively explored the connotation of quality of life of the elderly in the old-age care institutions ,providing a theoretical basis for developing appropriate measurement tools.
