Study on the Relationship between Social Support of Home Care for the elder and Depression of the Elder in a District of Tianjin
Abstract：Objective:To understand the social support and depression status of the elder in a district of Tianjin,and to analyze the re-lated factors. Methods:A total of 164 elderly people living in Nankai District of Tianjin were investigated by general information question-naire,Geriatric Self-rating Depression Scale(GDS)and Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS). Results:No depressive symptoms accounted for 69. 5% of the elder,25. 6% for the mild depression,and 4. 9% for severe depression. The high level of social support for the elderly ac-counted for 10. 4%,the middle level accounted for 84. 8%,and the low level accounted for 4. 9% . The related factors of depression are marital status,number of children,living conditions,monthly income and monthly medical expenses;social support related factors including age,marital status,number of children,living conditions,monthly income;social support and depression scores were negatively correlated (P < 0. 05). Conclusion:The elder in the community have serious depression. We should provide good social support and take correspond-ing measures to improve the mental status of the elderly in order to prevent depression in the elderly.
