Correlation Analysis between Depression and Family Functioning in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract:Objective:To investigate the family functioning and depression levels of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and to explore the relationship between the two groups.Methods:A convenience sampling survey was conducted among 206 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a first level hospital in Fuzhou by using the family function rating scale(FAD)and the self-rating depression scale(SDS).Results: Type 2 diabetic patients family function score was(139.66±13.94),the depression total score was(43.08±7.22).Diabetes and depression were positively related to family function score(P<0.05).Depression was negatively correlated with medical expenses,family residence,duration(P<0.05),and was positively with the grasp of DM knowledge and complications(P<0.05).The each dimension score of family function(except the total function score)was negatively correlated with the medical expenses,and was positively correlated with the family residence(P<0.05).The grasp of DM knowledge was negatively related to problem solving and was positively related to communication(P<0.05).Each dimension of family function was negatively correlated with the course of disease(P<0.05),and all dimensions of family function(except problem solving,emotional reaction and behavior control)were negatively correlated with complications(P<0.05).Conclusion:The family function of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients needs to be improved,and medical staff should pay attention to the function of communication and problem solving in family function,to a certain extent,to prevent and reduce the degree of depression.
