Effect of Orem Self-care Theory on Self-care Ability of Patients with Liver Cirrhosis and Esophageal Variceal Bleeding

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the effects of Orem self-care theory on self-care ability of patients with liver cirrhosis complicated with esophageal variceal bleeding(EGVB).Methods:A total of 80 cases of EGVB patients according to the number of beds were divided into the control group and the observation group,each with 40 cases.The control group during the treatment received gastroenterology routine nursing,while the observation group based on routine nursing intervention received Orem self-care theory.Disease knowledge,self-care ability,treatment compliance were compared before and after intervention between two groups.Results:The observation group treatment compliance rate and patient satisfaction rate were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05),and patients with complications,rebleeding rate were significantly lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).After the intervention,the observation group self-efficacy total score and 4 dimension scores were significantly higher than those in control group(P<0.05);the observation group's disease knowledge scores,including the etiology of liver disease,dietary requirements,medication requirements,complications of cirrhosis and discharged attention matters,were significantly higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Orem self-care theory can effectively improve the self-care ability of patients with EGVB and disease knowledge,so as to improve the treatment compliance of patients,reduce the rebleeding rate,benefit the prognosis of the patients,improve patient satisfaction.
