Effect of group psychotherapy on self - esteem,social function and self - care ability of patients with schizophrenia

Abstract：Objective:To investigate the effect of group psychotherapy on self - esteem,social function and self - care ability of patients with schizophrenia. Methods:84 patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into the observation group and the control group(42 ca-ses in each group). The patients in the control group were given routine nursing care and the patients in the observation group were provid-ed group psychotherapy,the self - esteem scale(SES),social function defect screening scale(SDSS)and self - care ability scale were used to evaluate the self - esteem,social function and self - care ability of the patients in the two groups before and after the intervention. Results:The SES score at discharge and the total score of self - care ability of the patients was higher in the observation group than the control group(P ﹤ 0. 05,P ﹤ 0. 01);the SDSS score of the patients in the two groups was lower after discharge for 6 months than that on admission,the SDSS score in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P ﹤ 0. 01). Conclusion:The group psychother-apy can effectively improve the self - esteem and self - care ability of the patients with schizophrenia and it is conducive to the recovery of social function and prognosis of the patients.
