Current situation of anxiety and depression and quality of life of the hospitalized empty nest elderly patients with diabetes

Abstract:Objective:To discuss the current situation of anxiety and depression and quality of life of the hospitalized empty nest elderly patients with diabetes and analyze the correlation in order to provide the reference for formulation of corresponding intervention program. Methods:The Self-rating Anxiety Scale ( SAS) ,Self-rating Depression Scale ( SDS) and the DSQL were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 43 hospitalized empty nest elderly patients with diabetes. Results:The scores of anxiety,depression and quality of life of the pa-tients were 46. 16±995,57. 12±8. 81 and 53. 91±8. 91 points respectively,the quality of life of 95. 3% of the total patients was in the me-dium level;anxiety and quality of life of the patients were positively correlated (P<0. 01),depression were not correlated with quality of life (P>0. 05). Conclusion:The incidence of anxiety and depression is higher in the hospitalized empty nest elderly patients with diabetes and nursing staff should strengthen psychological intervention on the patients so as to improve their quality of life.
